Atorvastatin 40 mg Coated Tablets
Why is Atorvastatin used?
Atorvastatin is used to lower fats known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when a low-fat diet and lifestyle changes fail to reduce them on their own. If you are at increased risk of heart disease, atorvastatin can also be used to reduce this risk even if your cholesterol levels are normal.
Do not take atorvastatin:
• If you are allergic to atorvastatin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• If you have or have ever had liver disease
• If you have any unexplained abnormal blood tests for liver function
• If you are a woman of childbearing potential and are not using reliable contraception
• If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant
• If you are breastfeeding
• If you are using the combination glecaprevir/pibrentasvir to treat hepatitis C
Warnings and Precautions:
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before taking atorvastatin:
• If you have severe respiratory failure
• If you are taking or have taken a medicine called fusidic acid in the last seven days
• If you have had a previous stroke with bleeding in the brain
• If you have kidney problems
Possible side effects:

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking your tablets and tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital accident and emergency department:
• A serious allergic reaction
• A serious illness with severe peeling and swelling of the skin
• Muscle weakness
Other medicines and atorvastatin:
There are some medicines that may alter the effect of atorvastatin, or the effect of atorvastatin may be altered by them.
• Medicines used to alter the way your immune system works
• Certain antibiotics or antifungal medications
• Other medicines to regulate lipid levels
• Certain calcium channel blockers used for angina or high blood pressure
• Termovir
• Medicines used to treat HIV and hepatitis C
How to take atorvastatin:
The usual starting dose of atorvastatin is 10 mg once a day for adults and children 10 years of age and older.
Atorvastatin tablets should be swallowed whole with a drink of water and can be taken at any time of day, with or without food. However, try to take the tablet at the same time each day.
How to store atorvastatin:
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date shown on the carton and outer packaging after {EXP}. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste.
