What are Ofloxacin/Prednisolone/Tetrahydrozoline used for?

Ofloxacin/Prednisolone/Tetrahydrozoline eye drops contain three active ingredients:

Ofloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic

Prednisolone, a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties

Tetrahydrozoline, a decongestant used to relieve eye redness caused by minor eye irritation.

Ofloxacin/Prednisolone/Tetrahydrozoline is used for corticosteroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment (conjunctiva, cornea, eyelid) and posterior segment inflammation where there is a bacterial infection or risk of bacterial infection.

What you need to know before using ofloxacin/prednisolone/tetrahydrozoline eye drops

Do not use ofloxacin/prednisolone/tetrahydrozoline eye drops if:

You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this drug.

Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including if you:

You are allergic to other quinolone antibacterial agents. Long-term use may result in a new bacterial infection that does not respond to ofloxacin.

You have a defect or ulcer on the surface of the eye.

You have diabetes.

You have high blood pressure.

You were born with or have a family history of prolonged QT interval, have a salt imbalance in your blood, have a very slow heartbeat, have a history of heart attacks, are female, elderly, or are taking other medications that cause abnormal ECG changes.

Sensitivity to light

Feeling like something is in your eye

Eye swelling

Puffiness around the eyes

Life-threatening irregular heartbeat

Cataracts

Other medications and ofloxacin/prednisolone/tetrahydrozoline:

If you are using any other eye medication, wait 15 minutes between each dose.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used, or might use any other medications.

You should tell your doctor if you are taking other medications that can alter your heart rhythm: antiarrhythmics, tricyclic antidepressants, certain antimicrobials (which belong to the macrolide group), and some antipsychotics.

Using eye drops containing steroids and eye drops containing beta-blockers (to treat high pressure in the eye) together may cause calcium phosphate to build up on the surface of the eye.

How to use ofloxacin/prednisolone/tetrahydrozoline eye drops:

Always use ofloxacin/prednisolone/tetrahydrozoline eye drops exactly as your doctor has told you.

The usual dose is one or two drops in the affected eye(s) every 2 to 4 hours for the first two days, then four times a day thereafter. To be effective, ofloxacin must be taken regularly. The duration of treatment should not exceed ten days.

Do not use the bottle if the tamper-evident seal on the neck of the bottle is broken before first use.

Apply eye drops as follows:

1. Wash your hands. Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling.

2. Gently pull down the lower eyelid until a small pocket is formed.

3. Turn the bottle upside down and squeeze it to release one or two drops into each eye that needs treatment.

4. Release the lower eyelid and close your eye for 30 seconds. If you miss an eye drop, try again.

To avoid contamination, do not let the dropper tip touch your eye or anything else. Replace and tighten the cap immediately after use.

How to store ofloxacin/prednisolone/tetrahydrozoline eye drops:

Keep this medication out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medication after the expiry date printed on the single-dose container after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Keep single-dose containers in their bags to protect from light. After first opening the sachet, use the single-dose packs within 15 days.

After opening the single-dose pack: Use immediately and discard the single-dose pack after use.

Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste.

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of any medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
