Helpful tips to reduce the severity of allergies
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to thin mucus.
Inhale steam: Take a hot shower or boil water and pour it into a bowl. Lean your head towards the bowl (stay at least 1 foot away), place a towel over the back of your head to create a tent, and inhale. Use an inhaler (humidifier), for example, Vicks Humidifier, to loosen mucus. Avoid inhaling irritants such as dust, perfumes, or pollutants. Wear a face mask to reduce exposure to allergens. Smoke sometimes irritates the airways and causes inflammation that can develop into bronchitis. Quitting smoking will help you get rid of your cough. Some lozenges, such as Strepsils, can soothe a sore throat.
