This medication is used to treat eye infections.
Tobramycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics.
It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
This medication treats only bacterial eye infections.
It will not be effective for other types of eye infections.
TOBREX® (Tobramycin Ophthalmic Ointment) 0.3% is a sterile, topical antibiotic ointment specifically formulated for the topical treatment of external eye infections.
Tobramycin is a water-soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive eye pathogens.
TOBREX® (Tobramycin Ophthalmic Ointment) 0.3% is a topical antibiotic used to treat external infections of the eye and its appendages caused by susceptible bacteria.
The use of TOBREX (tobramycin ophthalmic ointment) 0.3% should be accompanied by appropriate monitoring of the bacterial response to topical antibiotic therapy.
Clinical studies have shown that tobramycin is safe and effective for use in children.
Directions for use:
For mild to moderate infections:
Apply a 1/2-inch strip to the affected eye(s) two or three times daily.
For severe infections:
Instill a 1/2-inch strip into the affected eye(s) every 3 to 4 hours until improvement is seen. Afterward, the frequency of treatment should be gradually reduced before discontinuing.
How to apply Tobramycin ophthalmic ointment 0.3%:
Tilt your head back.
Place your finger on your cheek directly below your eye and gently pull it down until a V-shaped gap is formed between your eyeball and lower eyelid.
Apply a small amount (about half an inch) of TOBREX® (Tobramycin Ophthalmic Ointment) 0.3% into the "V" pocket.
Do not let the tip of the tube touch your eye.
Look down before closing your eyes.

Before using tobramycin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you:
are allergic to it; or to other aminoglycosides (such as gentamicin); or if you have any other allergies.
This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of any other eye problems.
This medication may cause temporary blurred or unstable vision after use.
Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you are sure you can perform these activities safely.
During pregnancy, this medication should only be used when absolutely necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is unknown whether this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
Unnecessary or excessive use of any antibiotic can lead to decreased effectiveness.
