                                    Tobramycin 0.3%/Dexamethasone 0.1% Eye Ointment

What is Tobramycin/Dexamethasone used for?

This product is used to treat inflammatory eye problems that respond to corticosteroid treatment and are associated with superficial bacterial eye infections, or where there is a high risk of superficial bacterial eye infections.

Do not use Tobramycin/Dexamethasone:

If you are allergic to tobramycin, dexamethasone, or any of the ingredients in this medicine. Tell your doctor about your allergies and any symptoms you experience.

If you have, or think you have, an eye infection that does not respond to tobramycin (such as viral infections caused by varicella-zoster virus, vaccinia virus, or herpes simplex virus, fungal infections, and fungal infections). Using corticosteroids on infected eyes that do not respond to this type of antibiotic may worsen the infection. Warnings and Precautions:

Stop using this medicine and talk to your doctor if you experience allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck, low blood pressure, and dizziness. Your doctor should start appropriate treatment if this occurs.

In severe purulent problems and parasitic eye infections, corticosteroids may mask signs of infection or worsen existing infections.

Talk to your doctor before starting tobramycin/dexamethasone if you wear soft contact lenses.

This medicine is for topical ophthalmic use only and should not be injected into the eye.

You may experience an allergic reaction to this medicine. If this happens, stop using it.

Prolonged use of this medicine may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. If a secondary infection develops, your doctor should start appropriate treatment. Prolonged use may also lead to increased eye pressure and/or cataracts. Cross-sensitivity to other aminoglycoside antibiotics may occur (you may experience hypersensitivity reactions to other aminoglycoside antibiotics if you have had similar reactions to an aminoglycoside antibiotic).

Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis (such as eye discharge, redness, swelling, or itching).

Talk to your doctor if your eye condition worsens or if you experience new symptoms. You may be more susceptible to infections while using this medication.

Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have a condition that may cause thinning of the eye tissue (such as rheumatoid arthritis, Fuchs' dystrophy, or after a corneal transplant). Using corticosteroids may increase the risk of thinning of the eye tissue, which could lead to perforation, and may also delay the healing of your eye wound. Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have diabetes (high blood glucose levels) as the risk of increased eye pressure caused by corticosteroids may be higher if you have diabetes.

Talk to your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.

Your doctor should monitor your eye pressure frequently.

The safety and effectiveness of this medication have not been established in children under 2 years of age; therefore, it is not recommended for this patient group.

Possible side effects:

Possible side effects include allergic reactions, hypersensitivity, and local ocular toxicity (such as eye discomfort, eyelid itching, swelling, and redness of the eye). Other side effects that may occur due to the dexamethasone component of this product include increased eye pressure with the potential for glaucoma (abnormally high eye pressure that can damage the optic nerve and cause vision problems), formation of posterior subcapsular cataracts (an eye problem that can cause poor reading vision, seeing halos around lights at night, and decreased vision in bright light), delayed wound healing, and secondary fungal infections. Other medicines and tobramycin/dexamethasone:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, supplements, and eye drops.

If you are using more than one eye drop solution, make sure you use each one at least five minutes apart to avoid dripping. If you are using an eye ointment, make sure it is applied last.

How to use tobramycin/dexamethasone:

Apply a small amount (1–1.5 cm) of ointment into the conjunctival sac up to three to four times a day.

The dose should not exceed 8 g initially.

Directions for use:

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor if you are not sure.

Make sure the cap and tube are unbroken before using the ointment. Wash your hands and open the tube by unscrewing the cap. Hold the ointment tube between your index finger and thumb as close to your eyelid as possible. Tilt your head slightly forward and pull your lower eyelid away from your eye to form a pouch between your eyelid and eye.

Carefully squeeze the ointment strip (about 1-1.5 cm) and place it into the pouch.

Next, look down slightly and gently close your eyelid for 1-2 minutes. Then, roll your eyeball in all directions to help spread the medication across the entire surface of your eye.

Apply your eye drops at least 5 minutes apart.

Use the medication at the same time every day.

Do not stop using your medication without consulting your doctor.

Avoid touching the tip of the ointment to your eye or other surfaces to prevent bacterial contamination, which could lead to eye infection and serious eye damage.

Contact your doctor if you suspect the ointment is contaminated.

How to store Tobramycin/Dexamethasone:

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children and pets.

Store between 2°C and 25°C. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date printed on the tube.

Once the tube is opened, the medicine can be used until the expiry date printed on the tube.

Keep the medicine away from light.

Do not share your medicines with others.

Do not dispose of medicines down the drain or in household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to properly dispose of medicines you no longer use.
